Emergency Wrap Around Support for Young Person

EMERGENCY 3 MONTH WRAP AROUND FOR HIGH RISK YOUTH.

Urgent Help Needed to Safeguard a Young person. (Jan-March 2024)

Dear Supporters,

We are reaching out to you with an urgent plea for help. We have come across a heartbreaking situation involving a young person, aged 16, and without immediate intervention, they may face grave consequences. We are launching this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for their rescue and to provide the necessary support to help them break free from the cycle of violence and exploitation. We have advised for a section 20 however according to mother she was discouraged and given other options.

The Problem:

For the past three years, this young person has been according to mother been failed by the social services. They have been lured into a gang and are now trapped in a hostile environment. Threats to their life are a constant reality, with two rival gangs near them. They have already experienced a terrifying knife incident where their life was put in jeopardy. The young person has disclosed to the parents that they want the exit from association with the line, the social services has not taken the risk level seriously and consequently downgraded the support plan.

Desperate for assistance, one of the parents googled us who shared our information with the social services, the social services then in turn contacted us, we received the referral and followed up accordingly, unfortunately there was no urgency in addressing the situation. Frustrated by their lack of action, the parent took matters into their own hands and privately funded a visit from us to conduct a risk assessment, which the authority later approved to refund the parent for. The assessment confirmed the severity of the situation and the immediate need for intervention to save this young person's life.

Our Efforts:

Immediately after our risk assessment, we presented a robust initial three-month intensive support plan to the social services. Unfortunately, they have not approved it, citing the lack of funds as the reason. We have offered alternatives and suggestions for Plan B and Plan C, but they have not engaged with us yet to explore other options. We have recommended that the parent request a Section 20 placement, which is intended for children who are unable to live with their parents. However, some employees of authority has expressed concerns about the cost associated with this option and recommended the YP stay with family. As an alternative, we are exploring the possibility of offering a wrap-around service. Unfortunately, we have also encountered similar cost-related objections from the authority.

The Urgency:

Time is of the essence. The client is not only at risk of harm through violence but is also contemplating carrying a weapon for self-defence. This puts them in even greater danger, as retaliation could result in further violence and potential loss of life. We cannot allow this young person to face such a grim future. We must act now to provide them with the support and guidance they need to break free from this life-threatening situation.

The Solution:

The client's parent has reached out to us in desperation, pleading for our help. We are determined to support them and facilitate a positive transformation in their life. Our wrap-around intervention programs typically run for 9-12 months, giving us ample time to address the underlying issues and provide the necessary support for lasting change. However, even with a three-month intensive support plan, we can make a significant impact and lay the foundation for continued progress. We have successfully taken many young people at risk and safeguarding them by changing mindsets and giving them opportunities to better themselves aiding in positive outcomes.

How You Can Help:

We are seeking your support to make a difference in this young person's life. Your generous donations will enable us to provide the following:

1. Immediate safety measures to protect the client from imminent danger, through wrap around support

2. One-on-one coaching from lived experience worker and trauma informed personal development sessions to address the trauma and help them develop a positive mindset.

3. Educational and vocational training to empower them with skills and opportunities for a brighter future.

4. Ongoing mentorship and support to guide them along the path of rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

5. Self Defence against knives so that they don't feel the need to pick up a weapon for protection and so they can identify risks quicker.

Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant impact on their journey to a better life. Together, we can give them a second chance, away from the grips of violence and exploitation.

We cannot stand by and watch this young person's life hang in the balance any longer in not addressing these concerns appropriately. Let us come together as a compassionate community and extend our support to rescue them from this harrowing situation. Your donation will not only save a life but also create a ripple effect of hope and inspiration for others trapped in similar circumstances.

Please donate generously and share this campaign with your friends, family, and social networks. Let's make a real difference and give this young person the opportunity to rewrite their future.

About Us

For the last 17 years, The Safety Box® has moved from strength to strength in delivering a range of evidenced based accredited AQA & CPD programs to not only those in prison, girls and women, youth at risk, and young people; but also to IOM Probation, the Police, Prison Officers, Social Workers, Parents, Caregivers, Professionals working with girls and youth at risk and delivering practical self-defence sessions for young people.

Based in South East England, with an endless knowledge of working within the custodial and community setting, we have helped thousands of troubled youth and also young adults too as well as delivering early intervention strategies to schools and local authorities who are concerned.

We are now starting to turn our focus to other areas of the business, whilst still maintaining our true values of providing a high-quality service. Our new focus is to both students within education as well as early intervention strategies for parents and continuing our work in preventative measures with regards to knife crime, prison work and youth violence.

In our tailored intensive support programs we aim to improve the levels of safety in a young persons life and with wider strategic priorities for reducing re-offending and addressing the poorer outcomes experienced by young people and adults who don’t normally engage in employment or education. We use a combination of evidenced based methodologies which compliment each other and have a proven track record of working within the custodial setting and within the community. All young people are different and we therefore assist them by tailor making each project.
